Vickie Cox Edmondson

philanthropist, legacy builder, and role model

 

Vickie Cox Edmondson is committed to making real progress in her community by promoting the benefits of higher education, entrepreneurship, and business careers. Her research and management expertise have afforded her opportunities to promote best business practices and business ownership. In 2006, Dr. Vickie Cox Edmondson was the recipient of the Birmingham Business Resource Center Director's Award. She skillfully communicates how to transfer research to practice for optimal results as evidenced by her ratings as a contract instructor at the CDC and other entities. Dr. Cox Edmondson's strategies have secured over 1 million dollars in grants for nonprofits.

Vickie is also committed to improving the lives of economically disadvantaged children. She co-founded and served as the Executive Director of the Follow Me Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized by the Georgia Senate in 2003 for its community involvement. The Foundation bestowed the Above and Beyond Award for Board Leadership upon her in 2005. She also received a Carroll County, Georgia NAACP Community Service Award in 2006. Furthermore, in her role as the first Associate Provost of Student Success at Morehouse, Dr. Vickie Cox Edmondson emphasized special care for first-generation students. Finally, Dr. Cox Edmondson serves as Co-chair of the Grady High School Career Technical and Agricultural Education Advisory Council. With her help, the school’s business and computer science program gained industry certification by the Georgia Board of Education.

Dr. VCE, an active Life Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 from The Exceptional Epsilon Eta Chapter at Spelman College. While serving as the first chapter alumna advisor for Epsilon Eta, Vickie worked closely with the Director of the Office of Student Life and Engagement and members throughout Sigma Gamma Rho to strategically raise the profile of the chapter. During her tenure, chapter inductions grew from an average of two members every three years to the induction of 21 new members in three years (from Spring 2012 through Spring 2015). In 2018, Dr. Cox Edmondson was appointed to the board of directors for the G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation.

Moreover, Vickie is a legacy investor in her alma maters.  A lifetime member of the Spelman College Alumnae Association and charter member of the West Georgia Chapter where she served as the first chapter’s Vice President. She also supports Mercer University, and the University of Georgia where she is a charter member of The 1961 Club. Not only does Dr. Cox Edmondson give financially, but she has a legacy of attendance at her alma maters of her daughter, granddaughter, nieces, and other family members - especially at Spelman College.    

Lastly, Vickie Cox Edmondson, a member of the board of directors at Saint Smyrna Baptist Church in Newnan, GA, has been a faithful financial donor to numerous local churches for years. She also supports several civic and professional organizations including, but not limited to Beta Gamma Sigma (Business International Honor Society), Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership Society) The NAACP, The AAUP, and The National Education Fund, SPEAR, and The Seven Pearls Foundation in support of Sigma Gamma Rho.
